BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Businesses on Truxtun Avenue have now been without water for three days.

On June 4, Cal Water notified customers on Office Park Drive, Commercial Way and Commerce Drive that oil contaminated their drinking water systems by way of backflow. Bakersfield is expected to hit 105 degrees today and it’s a different kind of work day for Nestor Marcial, as he went into his third shift with no running water.

“It’s basically survival of the fittest. They say you don’t know what you have until you lose it, so, that’s definitely the case here,” said Retro 92.1 personality, Nestor Marcial.

On Tuesday, Cal Water notified businesses on Truxtun Avenue between Mohawk Street and the Westside Parkway, that oil contaminated the water system by way of backflow. The oil came from a commercial business that stores crude oil. Crews are now flushing the system and conducting water quality testing.

“Well, considering the quality of the air, having issues now with water, it’s something you kind of alarming,” said Marcial. “If it happened in this area it can happen in other areas as well.”

All this time, life goes on for those affected.

“We’re here to keep going and keep entertaining, it doesn’t stop here,” said Marcial. “So, we’re taking the best precautions that we can.”

As of now, employees don’t have an answer as to when their water will be good to use again.
