BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County sheriff’s deputies said they arrested a man and recovered approximately 450 pounds of stolen copper wire from a property Monday in McKittrick.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said it served a search warrant at a property in the 22700 block of E Street on April 1 in connection to stolen property.

In a release, deputies said investigators found approximately 450 pounds of copper wire, suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and other equipment to strip insulation from wiring. Officials said wiring and tools allegedly found on the E Street property belonged to oilfield companies who operate nearby.

A 35-year-old Taft man was arrested at the property and booked into jail for purchase/possession of copper wire without due diligence, obstruction of a peace officer and other drug charges, according to sheriff’s officials.

The sheriff’s office said it is seeing a rise in copper wire thefts in Kern County specifically in the Taft, Maricopa and McKittrick areas.
