BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Strength training isn’t just something for professional athletes or body builders, according to Ryan Beckwith, owner of A3 Sports Performance. It’s an important practice for anyone who wants to increase mobility and bone density, staying healthy into old age.

He joined 17 News at Sunrise for an edition of Move with Maddie where he spoke about the importance of strength training to prevent injury and benefit your physical health. Increasing bone density is an important benefit of muscles-building exercises as well as increased cognition and energy levels.

It can be easy to get caught up in one type of workout, and whether that’s due to preference or convenience, we can sometimes focus only on cardio or only on strength training. It’s really important to have a variety, Beckwith said.

Beckwith shared a few compound movements that are good for building muscle, demonstrating with resistance bands. Resistance bands are portable and easy, but the workouts can be done with dumbbells, kettlebells, or even household items such as cans of soup, Beckwith noted.
