Applicants can receive grants of up to $5,000 for security improvements such as alarm systems, security cameras, lighting, and repairing damaged or destroyed windows. Higher budget grants of $25,000 will also be available for site-hardening improvements. To qualify, businesses with 500 or less employees can apply for the grants. The program, which launched in July 2023, has awarded $450,000 to 71 organizations so far.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The City of Bakersfield has announced it will be expanding its popular Business Security Improvements Grant program by making half-million dollars available to eligible downtown businesses and non-profit organizations, the city said through a news release.

Qualified applicants will have the chance to receive grants of up to $5,000 for security improvements including: alarm systems, security cameras, lighting and repairing damaged or destroyed windows. Higher budget grants, up to $25,000, will also be available to make site-hardening improvements.

To qualify, business owners must have a current business license with no delinquent bills or outstanding liens issued by the City of Bakersfield. Businesses with 500 or less employees can apply for the grants. A business may receive both the $5,000 and $25,000 grants, but no more than one of either.

The city launched the program in July 2023 and has awarded $450,000 to 71 organizations so far.

To apply for a grant visit the city’s website or at the Economic and Community Development Department on the third floor at City Hall North located at 1600 Truxtun Ave.
