The Bakersfield Police Department said a woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Harris Road on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 4:54 p.m., BPD officers were called to the intersection of Ashe Road and Harris Road regarding a crash between three vehicles.
Police said a man driving a black Volkswagen was driving westbound in the 6300 block of Harris Road when for unknown reasons, he veered into the eastbound lanes and crashed into a red Honda and a black Mini Cooper.
A woman suffered major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died, said BPD.
The other involved people sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen is cooperating with police. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, said officials.
BPD reminds drivers that the 6300 block of Harris Road is an east-to-west road, with two lanes of travel in each direction. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour.
The identity of the person killed will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner's Office. The investigation is ongoing.
