BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An organization dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of drunk driving received a big donation on Wednesday.

The Bakersfield Police Department donated $2,500 to the Kern County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Funding was raised at BPD’s motor competition, which saw officers from across the state show off their motorcycle skills at the Park at River Walk.

Advocates say the funds will go a long way in supporting the BPD’s traffic officers.

“I’ve been doing this advocacy for 22 years here in Kern County, I’ve witnessed a lot of change, its needed,” said Carla Pearson, with Kern County MADD. “We need to support our traffic unit. As we see when were driving around our community, its scary.”
