BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — As this weekend’s storm is clearing out, high pressure is building in, and that brings a warming trend today through Wednesday. So expect sunny skies today and highs in the low 70s in the valley, mid-60s in the Kern River Valley, and mid-50s in the south mountains of Tehachapi and Frazier Park.

A cold front will then sweep in on Thursday, bringing a dramatic drop of about 20 degrees. Blustery winds are expected, so a wind advisory will likely be issued through our mountains and down into the Kern Desert Thursday. Behind the cold front, a low pressure system will then settle in, bringing rain Thursday night and scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms on Friday.

It will be cold enough to bring snow to our higher elevations on Thursday too. the snow level will start at 6,000 feet on Thursday, with a drop to as low as 2,000 feet on Friday. That could mean snow as low as Lake Isabella. Snow amounts, if any, at pass level should be one inch or less.

As the storm clears Saturday morning, expect more sunshine that afternoon with a rise in temperatures to the low 60s in the valley for the weekend ahead. Though drier this weekend, the south mountains will remain cold, with highs just in the mid-40s.
