Two suspects were arrested Wednesday night after they allegedly led Arvin police officers on a high-speed, alleged DUI pursuit on Bear Mountain Boulevard after they received reports of reckless driving, according to a release. The driver was allegedly driving under the influence.

At around 9 p.m., on April 3, officers patrolling in Arvin said they saw a blue Mustang speeding at an alarming rate in a residential area, showing signs of reckless driving.

Upon an attempt to intercept the driver, they allegedly tried to avoid the officers, ending in a very dangerous turn onto Bear Mountain Boulevard. The driver ended up driving over a center median, causing the Mustang to spin out of control.

Officers approached to assess the incident and to provide assistance, but the driver allegedly accelerated towards the officers, said officials, resulting in a head-on crash into a patrol vehicle. Shortly later, Kern County Fire Department officials arrived and treated the suspects and officers.

The suspects refused medical care and were not injured. One officer sustained minor injuries in the crash, said Arvin PD.

Following medical evaluation, the driver and passenger of the Mustang were both arrested for allegedly reckless driving, DUI and assault with a deadly weapon.

"The safety of our community and our officers is our top priority. We will not tolerate such egregious behavior, and those responsible will be held accountable," stated Arvin Police Chief Alex Ghazalpour.

As depicted in the photos provided by the Arvin Police Department, drugs and alcohol did allegedly play a major factor in the incident, said officials.

The suspects were not identified by Arvin police in a release.
